Funding for Lancashire farms available now

Great news! If you farm in Lancashire, you could now receive funding for a wide range of farming projects.

The Lancashire LEADER programme, part of the Rural Development Programme, has made an open call for farms in Lancashire to apply for funding.

If you’re looking to improve your practices and become more productive, that could mean you!

What projects are eligible?

The programme is offering grants to businesses and organisations in eligible rural areas, including Lancashire North and Bowland, Lancashire West, and Lancashire Pennine Moors (including parts of Greater Manchester).

Farm projects eligible for funding are split into three categories:

  • Improve overall performance and sustainability of an agricultural holding
  • Improve animal health and welfare
  • Processing, marketing, and developing agricultural products.

While there’s no maximum grant amount, the maximum grant rate is 40%. The total funding pot for Lancashire is £4.2 million to cover projects in farming, enterprise, rural services, culture and heritage, forestry, and tourism.

There’s also no deadline to apply. Applications will stay open until all funds have been allocated. Currently, applications in the farming category are still open, though some in other categories (such as culture and heritage) have closed.

Projects to improve performance of an agricultural holding

Examples of eligible grants in this category could include equipment to improve energy efficiency—biomass heating, perhaps?—and “investments to modernise or mechanise production and increase productivity”.

Construction costs may also be covered. Click here for the full list.

Projects to improve animal welfare

Successful grant applications under this category could include equipment and machinery to improve the efficiency of animal feed use—using silos, conveyors, and feeding systems, for example. Read more about the benefits of bulk feed storage.

Equipment to improve animal handling is also included. Click here for the full list.

Projects for processing agricultural products

Building conversion, marketing materials, and product development technologies could all be eligible in this category.

How to apply

1. Email ruralfunding@lancashire.gov.uk to find out whether your postcode is in an eligible area.

2. If your postcode is eligible, they will need to check whether your project fits into one of the priority project categories covered above.

3. Eligible projects are invited to complete an Expression of Interest form.

4. If this is approved, you’ll then be invited to submit a full application.

Click here to visit the application page. Again, there’s no deadline, so applications can be made until funding runs out.
