How to Secure Equipment Funding for Your Welsh Farm (2018)
(This guide is an update on an article originally published 04.05.17)
Do you farm in Wales?
Would you like to improve your farming efficiency, both economic and environmental?
If so, then we’ve got great news:
The third application window for the Welsh Farm Business Grant (FBG) opened 29th January 2018.
Read our guide below to find out what your farm could receive funding for, and how to apply.
What can FBG grant funding be used for?
This grant is for investments in equipment and machinery.
The Welsh Government have provided a list of eligible equipment identified as ‘offering clear and quantifiable benefits to farm enterprises’. You’ll find a link to the full list below.
Here’s an example:
If you’re looking to enhance biosecurity, and protect your animal feed against contamination, you could receive funding for a 10 tonne steel bulk feed bin.
Have different storage needs?
You could still receive grant funding. Just give us a call or use our contact form and one of our team will be able to advise.
Here’s the full list of eligible equipment.
Don’t forget—bulk feed storage also has economic benefits. With a silo, feed purchase costs can reduce by as much as £70 per tonne.

How much money is available?
In 2017, a funding pot of £40m was announced. This funding was to be distributed over the next four years (now three).
As of 2018, the minimum grant available is £3,000, and maximum is £12,000 (more than enough to cover a silo or two!)
So, what does this mean for your application?
Well, according to Government officials, an application for the minimum grant of £3,000 would be offered at a grant rate of 40%. Total project value would therefore be £7,500.
That means those interested in applying should select list items which allow them to meet the minimum grant value, or more.
How can I apply?
The third proposal window for the 2017-18 financial year opened 29th January 2018 and closes 16th March 2018.
To apply, you’ll need to submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) via the Rural Payments Wales (RPW) portal.
Full details on the application process are available in Section C of this Government Guide.
